I am happy promoting live music and don't have much to do with speedway racing these days. I've done 26 gigs so far and have no plans to return to speedway in an official capacity. Incredibly for someone no longer involved I was amazed how many individuals wanting to get involved with the club sought my advice and opinion.
I did go to Cardiff/Somerset, Somerset/Plymouth (when the Bears raced there), Poland (to see Tai Woffinden win the world title) and eight home meetings but I would never go back regularly until certain people were no longer involved with the club. I totally take on board Clarence's comments that some people just want to see the spectacle and have no involvement with the politics. I only ever did what I thought was best for Redcar Speedway and put my heart and soul into making it financially stable but nothing was ever good enough and like so many others before me it was the law of ever diminishing returns.
I did receive offers from Newcastle, Scunthorpe and a non league club to help find them sponsorship but I just don't have the time to devote to speedway nowadays because of work and music commitments. My main involvement was helping pay towards the race jackets for the Northern Junior Championship that Jamie Swales put together. I'm sure Ian Drinkel is doing a fine job - it was my judgement that got him involved with the club in the first place because I could see his potential as he has a background in marketing. Unlike others I left the club knowing my replacement only had the best interests of Redcar Speedway at heart. However, some people have very short memories.
